Justin’s win at the Blumeys earns him a trip to New York this month to compete in the Jimmy Awards, which brings together the nation’s top high school theatre students. “It has never happened before so it was definitely a shocker.” Justin’s chilling portrayal of the demon barber earned him his second straight Best Actor in a Musical award at the Blumey Awards, an event that recognizes high school theatre programs in the Charlotte area. Justin said his favorite role at CATA was playing the head nun in House of Blue Leaves because he “could truly let loose and be the crazy person I am.” That fun and energetic role was a stark contrast to his most recent role as the murderous Sweeney Todd. After college, Justin plans to start his career as a professional actor. It was that perspective that led him to want to continue his education, ultimately getting accepted at Point Park University in Pittsburgh where he will study musical theatre this fall. Looking back, Justin said he remembers how hard his mother worked and the sacrifices she made for him and their family.
